Welcome to Deepwater Currents

First of all, let me thank you for taking the time to drop by and take a check out Deepwater Currents — our technology blog.  This being our first installment, I would like to tell you a little about what we hope to accomplish here.  Before I get started, I think I should warn all of you that this is all pretty new to me.  Not the technology part, but the part about… er… blogs.  This is probably best illustrated by my reluctance to even use the word blog.  That being said, I do have experience in technical writing (manuals, how-tos, etc.), and I hope that is enough to get me halfway towards writing something useful for you.  So, knowing what you now do, I hope you will bear with me.

The main purpose of these pages is to help you with computer/network/tech problems that we think are resolvable by the average user.  This will often take the form of an overview with step by step instructions.  At other times, it might be something more akin to a primer — a general overview of a technology or a process.  In either case, the aim is to give you information that will help you better understand and manage the information technology around you.  In addition to the regular blog entries, we will present news and other information that we think you should know about.  Finally, though I hope it doesn’t represent a large percentage of what we put here, we will be posting opinion-editorial content on various tech topics.

In most cases this blog will be written by me.  Other times it will be written by other Deepwater IT staff members.  In special cases, we may even invite experts from outside our organization to write something for us.  There will be times when we reprint material from other authors.  When we do so, it will be made clear with proper accreditation and links to the original material (wherever possible).  There are plenty of well-researched and well-written articles on the web that cover many of the topics I think are important.  If such articles already exist for whatever topic I want to cover at the time, I will not hesitate to use them.

Seeing that this is an IT-related blog, and that Deepwater IT is an IT services company, there is one thing I feel compelled to assure you of:  This technology blog will never be used as a thinly-veiled marketing tool.  Sure, we will discuss technologies that we regularly employ.  Furthermore, let me say I hope you do end up using us for any IT help you need in the future.  That being said, we will post things related to marketing, our IT business, and the website in general on this blog, but they will be clearly marked and in categories titled (helpfully) Marketing, IT Business, and Site Information.

So, to any of you who have made it this far…  thank you!  If you can tolerate my writing style and you’re interested in learning more about technology, then I’m sure you’ll find something here that will interest you.  Our goal is to have regular posts at least on a weekly basis, but please allow us a little extra time for the first few installments. We are trying to start a new company, as well!
